Athletic Competition Release of Liability: The Participant recognizes that participation in the High Desert Celtic Festival and Games (herein after referred to as the Games) involves risk of physical injury including that caused by the negligence of the Participant or the High Desert Celtic Society (herein referred to as HDCS). By signing herein, the participant voluntarily releases, waives and relinquishes any current or future claim against the HDCS for personal injury, property damage or wrongful death occurring to the Participant arising out of participation in the Games, and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the HDCS from any claim against it for personal injury, property damage or wrongful death to the Participant, to the extent allowed by law. All competition will be conducted according to the Scottish American Athletic Association (SAAA) and under the supervision of SAAA sanctioned Judges. Competition will consist of the following events: Stone Throw, Hammer Toss, Weight for Distance, and Weight for Height and Caber. (There may be an optional challenge stone event with a heavy stone. This challenge event does not count for official scores and participation is completely up to the athlete’s discretion.) I have full knowledge of the risks involved in this event and I represent that I am sufficiently physically fit and trained to participate in this event, and agree that HDCS officials may authorize emergency medical treatment on my behalf. I have read and understand the Athletic Competition Release of Liability and agree to these terms.

ATHLETIC REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8:30AM. THE HEAVY EVENTS COMPETITION WILL BEGIN AS CLOSE TO 9:00AM AS POSSIBLE.

Registration fee MUST accompany this application or be paid prior to 9:00AM start time. Game T-Shirts guaranteed for Pre-Registered Athletes only. Late and Field Entries will be given a shirt on an as-available basis. DEADLINE for Pre-Registration is: JULY 14, 2008

ATHLETIC RULES

1. Competitors must wear the kilt and Highland hose at all times while on the athletic field. Exceptions to this rule must have prior approval of the Athletic Director and/or the Head Judge.

2. All events will be governed by the Scottish American Athletic Association (SAAA) Rules. The SAAA and the sponsors of the event (HDCS) reserve the right to test any competitor for the use of steroids and other performance altering substances.

3. Pre-Registered athletes will not receive a competitors’ ticket in advance of the Game’s date. Names of pre-registered competitors will be posted on a roster at the entry gate unless other special arrangements have been made with the Athletic Director.

4. Decisions of the nudges and Athletic Director are final.

5. The organizers (HDCS) and the SAAA reserve the right to change, combine, or eliminate scheduled events.

6. The competition is expected to include the traditional eight heavy events of Scottish Highland Athletics; however, the scheduling of final competition events is at the discretion of the Athletic Director and Judges.

7. If there are fewer than 3 athletes entered in a class, no awards will be presented unless athlete qualifies for award in the next most appropriate class.

8. By my signature on the entry form, I release my rights to any photographs or facsimiles taken of me during my participation in the Heavy Events Competition at these games and grant the SAAA and the organizers of the Games the right to use, reproduce and publish the photographs or facsimiles at their discretion.
